How to Help During a Pandemic

People's lives have been completely uprooted by this pandemic. A lot of us are feeling anxious and stressed. But when everything feels out of control, it's important to remember that there are still ways you can make an impact.

Supporting Small Business

One of the best ways to create an impact right now is by supporting small businesses. Get takeout from local restaurants, purchase gifts from independent artists (Etsy is my favorite place to find gifts), and shop small as much as you can. Buying gift cards for later use from local businesses is also a great way to help out. Your support could mean a world of difference for these businesses who are struggling right now.

Donating

If you are able to at this time, donate to causes that are still working to help people around the world. Besides COVID-19 specific causes, remember that the fight still continues for important issues such as menstrual equity, world hunger, and more.

Creating Awareness

It is important that we take advantage of the tools we have to create intentional awareness. Post on social media, talk to people, and do what you can to highlight specific charities, injustices, and other things that deserve to be seen. Even when you cannot do anything directly, you can direct other people towards it.

Spreading Positivity

I know this may sound insignificant but when we are all surrounded by such negativity, creating little pockets of joy could mean a world of difference to someone. Start a gratitude journal, check-in on your friends, and share positive messages. Maybe you can start a book club or a pen-pal chain! My personal favorite way to spread positivity is to send handwritten notes. The little things matter.

Life may be uncertain right now but we must use this time to our advantage. If we all play our part, we can help the world come out of this better than it was before. We can establish a new normal that is rooted in kindness, respect, and empathy. Let's support one another and empower the world.
